Jackson Duke, the main antagonist of Gangstar New Orleans, is a corrupt police officer and crime lord who will stop at nothing to stop Alain and his gang.
Appearance[]
The Duke has a rather bony face and long neck along with a light stubble, angry eyebrows and short hair with shaved sides. His attire consists of a navy blue jacket over a striped blue and white shirt, paired with matching trousers and a police badge attached to his belt. He is armed with either a Brutal Revolver or Mortimer's Pride.
Personality[]
Jackson Duke's true personality is difficult to define due to his limited screen time. However, it is evident that he is driven by money and does not think twice when there is money involved.
Background[]
Jackson Duke is a powerful figure who controls New Orleans and has influence over several thugs and the New Orleans Police Department. The length of his time as a crime lord or his involvement with the NOPD is unknown.
Events before Gangstar New Orleans[]
E-Man's debts[]
Slightly before the events of Gangstar New Orleans, E-Man accrued debts in a high-stakes Mah-jong game. Subsequently, his boss sold these debts to Jackson Duke, forcing E-Man to move from Vegas to New Orleans to work off his debts to the Duke. Whilst E-Man wasn't working, he was trapped inside Yuri the Red's basement. E-Man suffered countless hours of indentured servitude in extremely hostile conditions.
Incident with Guidry's sister[]
Before Guidry left his position as his C.I, Jackson Duke was involved in an unspecified incident with his sister. This would end up being a fatal mistake, with Guidry later spilling the beans on his upcoming meeting, resulting in him being forced into hiding from the Syndicate.
Events of Gangstar New Orleans[]
Convenience store robbery and E-Man's rescue[]
In the introduction, Jackson Duke appears at the Up Late Convenience store while the player and Elsie Parker are robbing it. He starts to chase them, but later, the player and Elsie manage to escape. Shortly after the robbery, the player arrives at Yuri the Red's mansion in the Plantations, kills him, and rescues E-Man.
Ernesto's helicopter diversion[]
While searching for a replacement cook for E-Man, the Duke hires a man named Ernesto, who seems surprisingly decent. However, E-Man diverts Ernesto's helicopter and steals the Duke's new cook.
Drugs[]
At some point in between the events of Non-Complete Agreement and Cornering the Market, The Duke released a drug product, a crude compound consisting of beef stock, crushed peanuts, "pluming fluid," and ammonium chloride. This product received fair success and eventually began to cut into E-Man's profits. E-Man, visibly frustrated, informs the player that the mastermind behind the drug operation is a man named Fiddlestick. He also reveals that his supplier has disclosed the shipment locations. The player then proceeds to the specified site, destroys all the barrels, and Fiddlestick is tragically killed in a gas explosion, establishing E-Man at the top of the game.
Judge Tarpon[]
When Judge Tarpon issued an eviction notice on The Hallowed, Alain's club, as part of a scheme by Jackson Duke, the player protected an innocent witness, who testified against Tarpon on the afternoon of the incident.
Unnamed strongman[]
One of Marie's former strongmen, who now works for Jackson Duke, is assassinated by the player at his wedding by command.
Guidry spilling the beans[]
In an attempt to steal important information from the Duke, the player and Diggs infiltrate the Duke's security at Subprime Bank, seizing the opportunity to grab some money. During their operation, they discover the ID of Guidry, a shrimp boat captain and known smuggler. Diggs found out that Guidry was working as an informant for Duke, who got him to flip after a bust involving Guidry's sister. Before Diggs and the player could speak to Guidry, the Duke's henchmen arrived and began shooting. Guidry later mentioned that Duke had a meeting scheduled in the near future, however it was unspecified when or who was going to be attending.
Supposed assassination[]
Before the planned assassination of Jackson Duke, Alain's Gang gathers in a circle at a construction site in Central Business District. The gang discusses who Jackson Duke is meeting. Alain reveals that Duke is meeting a person named Roger Glazier, who represents an unknown organization. Alain then talks about the difficulty of obtaining information, a point Marie also addresses. The gang is determined to uncover who is pulling Duke's strings.
The player drives to the shopping center near the airport, kills all the guards, and then Suit informs him that Duke is near the refinery in Gretna on the other side of the river.
Upon arriving at the refinery, the player proceeds to the oil tank where Jackson Duke is located. As the oil tank catches fire, a falling pole crushes Duke, seemingly killing him. However, in the final cutscene, Duke heroically survives, moving his hand and opening his eyes despite the fatal injury.
Motive[]
- "We trust these funds and the ongoing contributions they represent should be enough for you and your "police" force to push out the gangs and to establish total control over New Orleans. Remember: The Syndicate does not forgive. R.G."
- ―Roger Glazier
Diggs discovered a letter from Roger Glazier that finally explained why Duke wanted Alain's gang dead. This confirmed Diggs' suspicion that someone was pulling his strings. The letter confirms that Duke was compelled to eliminate all the gangs from New Orleans and establish total control otherwise, the Syndicate would come after him.
Events after Gangstar New Orleans[]
After his supposed death, Jackson Duke is never seen again, forced into hiding from the Syndicate, likely fleeing New Orleans. His fate lies unknown.
